Here, we used the history of the site to fill the playground with colour and action. A fire engine with moving parts, a burning house, a climbing wall to climb up of the flames, a tangle of hosepipes to swing on and shimmy up. Both drama of the emergency and the teamwork involved in rescuing the victims may be played out. Exercising and relaxing together afterwards also brings kids and their carers closer together. At the back of the new sports area we created a garden with a banqueting table big enough for a whole class to sit down enjoy the fruits of their efforts together.
