Bollwerk, Heiligensee, Berlin
In an earlier life, this site was a loading stage for transport barges. Now it is a peaceful backwater and bathing place for local residents. To increase its ecological value while maintaining its function as a bathing place, we are proposing a protective zone in the form of a barge. This is constructed from tree-stems in the same manner as traditional wave-breakers for shielding reed beds, with the added virtue of being inaccessible for people, dogs and foxes.
This project is still in the preliminary design phase.
